This is the back of the linen closet door that was in the hallway leading to the bedrooms. We marked our heights on it (and the heights of our friends) as we all grew up.
This is the piece of wood that was installed over the fireplace as a mantlepiece.
My brother had arranged, the previous autumn, to have the linen closet door (that had all our heights through the years marked on it) extracted from the house prior to the teardown. When I spoke with him the morning after the actual teardown had commenced, he asked for me to arrange to save a portion of the beech tree that stood in the center of the courtyard. I had to inform him that it had already been destroyed. His second choice was a portion of the sycamore tree that stood outside his bedroom window. The teardown contractor agreed to cut for us two 8 foot portions of that tree's trunk, and also in addition to cut two slices of the trunk.
This is a tiny part of one of the beams from the living room ceiling. I am guessing they might have been redwood and about 5 x 12 inches by 16 feet.
The text at upper right reads: 'Part of one of the french doors from the dining room or living room.'
Bedroom window.
This is a solid-core door that Dad trimmed and finished to use as a kitchen table. It was attached at one end to the wall, and had a central support at the other end.
